Hi! I'm Shari Steinman. I am an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at West Virginia University, and Director of the Cognition, Anxiety, and Treatment (CAT) Lab.
In the CAT Lab, we investigate the mechanisms underlying anxiety disorders and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and use this knowledge to improve treatment options and outcomes for individuals with anxiety and related disorders. We are particularly interested in evaluating and manipulating cognitive biases and exploring how these biases relate to the onset, maintenance, and treatment of anxiety disorders and OCD. We are also very passionate about maternal mental health, and finding ways to prevent perinatal anxiety and OCD.
I received my doctorate degree from the University of Virginia. During graduate school, I worked with Bethany Teachman in the Program for Anxiety, Cognition and Treatment (PACT) Lab. I completed my predoctoral internship at the Institute of Living (Cognitive Behavioral Therapist Track), and completed post-doctoral work and held an Assistant Professor position at New York State Psychiatric Institute and Columbia University Medical Center, at the Center for OCD and Related Disorders, directed by Blair Simpson.
If you are an are interested in getting involved in my research, email me at shari.steinman@mail.wvu.edu!
I plan to accept a new graduate student to work with me in the 2021-2022 academic year.
The CAT Lab is committed to fostering a community that celebrates and supports diversity, and where all members of the community feel safe and welcome. We reject bigotry, discrimination, and harassment.
